Theatre Stage Manager, Barbican Centre

Permanent, full time

The Barbican is Europe's largest multi-arts and conference venue presenting a diverse range of art, music, theatre, dance, film and education events. The Theatre department presents an ambitious programme that crosses art forms, with outstanding artists and performers. We excel at projects that hover on the edge of classification. We showcase international theatre, dance and performance by leading companies’ and emerging artists that challenge the idea of what theatre can be.

The Stage Management department works on incoming shows (both in-house and site-specific) alongside visiting companies, BITE and other Barbican departments. We are looking for an experienced Stage Manager to join the busy theatre technical team. The Stage Manager would be responsible for looking after productions/visiting companies, providing the highest level of customer service to both internal and external customers, actively seeking to promote the centres vision of a ‘total experience’.

The successful applicant will have proven experience as a Stage Manager in the theatre environment, with an active interest and knowledge of the theatre industry. They will need to have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, with the ability to work independently under pressure as well as part of part of a dynamic supportive team. Ideally you will have previous experience of supervising staff and casual workers in a multi-arts venue or similar. A good working knowledge of IT Packages (Word, Excel) and handling budgets is essential.
