ARTISTS IN THE HOUSE - £1,000 ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE OPPORTUNITIES, Islington Exhibits

London Artform: combined arts, interdisciplinary arts, visual arts   Contact: list@islingtonexhibits.com

Description

Islington Exhibits is inviting applications from artists working in any medium for a series of residencies based in four very different organizations in the borough.  Each residency provides unique opportunities for public engagement, participation, research, and the development of new work.  A fee of £1000 is available for each residency and the outcomes of your work will be included in Islington Exhibits, a high profile event running throughout the borough between 25 June – 4 July 2010.

The Archway Herbal Clinic residency will offer the chance to explore the intertwined lives of plants and humans, while St. Luke's Centre, a large, friendly community centre in South Islington, seeks an artist who can bring together people of all ages to create either transient or permanent works within the community. At Islington Town Hall, the borough's civic centre, an artist will have the opportunity to research the inner workings of the political process or engage with the diverse public who use the Town Hall's spaces and services. The residency at St Martins, a leading provider of housing and support for people with mental health problems, ex-offenders or people at risk of offending, might involve engaging with staff and residents to provide inspirational and inclusive activities, with the chance to produce work that reflects individual narratives or the social perception of excluded and marginalised people.

The residencies will take place during the months leading up to Islington Exhibits, which takes place from Friday 25 June to Sunday 4 July. Interested artists can find more details and find out how to apply at www.islingtonexhibits.com/residencies.

The deadline for applications is 21 February 2010

Islington Exhibits is produced by local arts charity Rowan Arts in partnership with Cubitt Education and St Luke's Centre, with support from Islington Council.
