Coventry Cathedral Launches New Design Competition

The Dean of Coventry has announced the search for an artist, textile technician or fashion designer to design new vestments and a banner for the Cathedral. The chosen designer will receive a commissioning fee of £5000 and see their designs bought to life for the Cathedral’s September 2021 celebration of their patron saint St Michael. Apart from a special set designed for millennium in 2000, the special clothing worn in processions inside and outside the Cathedral has remained the same since the Cathedral’s consecration in 1962.

Professional artists, students and designers from all over the world are invited to submit their designs to be considered. The top 5 designs selected will be awarded £500 and will be invited to visit the Cathedral to prepare a final design to be displayed in a public exhibition.
