Lake of Stars Presents Love Ssega

Description

Lake of Stars takes over St Mary’s Music Hall in Walthamstow Village to for a night of exciting new music. Featuring rising star Love Ssega (UK/Uganda) with full live band, supported by Nkomba (UK/Malawi) and Beating Heart co-founder Olly Wood (DJ set).

A founding member of Clean Bandit, Love Ssega has teamed up with Friendly Fires' Jack Savidge to create a solo project packed with 80's disco riffs, funky basslines and dancefloor beats. Filtering a crate-digging knowledge of classic sounds through life growing up in South London, Love Ssega channels a vibrant mix of New Wave, 80s hip-hop, Congolese Rumba and NYC disco into smart modern pop, drawing on an evocative point in sound and culture.

Contemporary African folk band Nkomba bring their energetic mixture of Malawian folk songs and African roots music. The four-piece, led by Ron Nkomba on guitar, mandolin and harmonica perform their interpretations of traditional Malawian songs and compositions with influences from Europe, Asia and Africa.
