About Instructor Chloe Kennedy

Chloe Kennedy is a researcher and director specialising in improvisation.  She has worked in directing and teaching positions for institutions such as The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Performance Preparation Academy (De Montfort University) and City Academy. As a deviser and director she has had productions shown at The Vagina Museum, Omnibus Theatre, The Glory, The Drayton Arms and The Bunker.

Intro to Long form improv (Part One):

July 14, 6-7:30 PM

Participants will develop their knowledge of improv with a focus on creating an understanding of the basics of Spontaneity, Narrative and Character as outlined by Keith Johnstone and adapted by a range of practitioners.

In this workshop participants will learn:  

- Spontaneity: The acceptance of ideas on the stage or in rehearsals; as well as an acceptance of ourselves, our quirks, our learning styles and our creative process. 

- Character: How to utilise your learning style and preferred creative process in the creation of character.

- Narrative: A guide to focusing on structure over content in the creation of improvised dialogue. 

Devising a Monologue or Etude (Part Two):

July 17, 6-7:30 PM

In this workshop participants will be introduced to an adapted version of Mike Leigh’s improvisation technique.  Participants will be taken through a series of steps which will demonstrate how to create a monologue or etude through the use of repetitive long-form improvisations.  

In this workshop participants will learn:  

 - An embodied process of creating devised/improvised work - that can also later be written down.

- How the development of background information can aid creativity in performance/writing.

Participants will also be coached on how their learning process will impact this work. 

(Participants can either work alone or with another person from their household.)
