In this conference we will explore the notion of spiritual viewing, what is meant by spiritual or contemplative viewing in order to investigate the dynamics that exist between the beholder (viewer) and the object (artwork).

What is spiritual art?
Interpretations of artworks in spiritual/religious settings and the converse of this.
The significance of place in interpretation.
The idea of a gaze, a way of looking at certain works.
The relationship between spirituality and contemplation.

Key note speakers include art historian and author Michael Howard, Dr Jonathan Koestlé-Cate, lecturer at Goldsmiths and art theorist Dr Rina Arya.

Conference registration fee: £60 for two days attendance; £35 for one day attendance. (Includes buffet lunch and tea and coffee) Email admin@passionartmcr for more details and booking form.
