A conference looking at Art and Spirituality.

To co-incide with the Manchester PassionArt Trail (5th March - 21st April 2014) we will be hosting a conference that looks at Art and Spirituality.

In this conference we will explore the notion of spiritual viewing, what is meant by spiritual or contemplative viewing in order to investigate the dynamics that exist between the beholder (viewer) and the object (artwork).

What is spiritual art?
Interpretations of artworks in spiritual/religious settings and the converse of this.
The significance of place in interpretation.
The idea of a gaze, a way of looking at certain works.
The relationship between spirituality and contemplation.

Key note speakers include art historian and author Michael Howard, Dr Jonathan Koestlé-Cate, lecturer at Goldsmiths and art theorist Dr Rina Arya.
