Description

COU COU and The Theatre Chipping Norton are seeking Oxfordshire based recent graduate or student artists to take part in the ILLUSTORY project and put together an exhibition in the theatre gallery November - December 18 to sit alongside the theatre’s famous pantomime: ALADDIN

The ILLUSTORY project encourages young artist to delve into the fairytales and stories that are emblematic of their own cultures, to make contemporary visual responses to them and to vision new stories together. The project aims to give young creatives the opportunity to work together to mount a professional exhibition in a supported environment, whilst developing their real-world skills.

2016 was the first year of the project and culminated in an exhibition ‘High Seas and Palm Trees’ responding to Robinson Crusoe.  Last year four emerging artists made the ‘Sleep’ exhibition in response to Sleeping Beauty.

This year we will welcome applications from painters, illustrators, games designers, textile or ceramic artists, photographers, composers. We ask that you are able to create 3 – 5 pieces of work in a four month period in response to the Theatre’s original production of ALADDIN, set in 1930’s Egypt, to show in the gallery space.

You will have exclusive access to the pantomime script, set and costume designs, rehearsals and the creative team for the pantomime in order to create work that is truly intertwined with the production.

Mentoring will be offered throughout by professional artists.

To apply, please send in pictures of your work, including one work that illustrates or in some way responds to a book of your choice, along with a minimum of 100 words explaining why you would like to take part in the ILLUSTORY project and what you hope to gain from it.

Send to: artsadmin@chippingnortontheatre.com  by Wednesday 11th July. Interviews to be held w/c July 16th

Please note that there is no financial payment for taking part in the project, but you will be strongly encouraged to sell your work during the exhibition.
