One of the École Lecoq's greatest teachers teaches teachers how to teach!
Norman Taylor taught alongside Jacques Lecoq for almost twenty years, teaching movement analysis. He is widely regarded as one of the finest ambassadors of Lecoq's pedagogy, and one of the few remaining first-generation teachers from the Lecoq School.
Embodied Poetics, which offers two, fourteen-week teacher-trainings on the Lecoq pedagogy, is delighted to host Norman for seven weekend intensives, September - December 2019.
These movement analysis workshops accompany the Second Voyage of Embodied Poetics, which focuses on the second-year curriculum of the École Lecoq.
In these intensive weekend workshops, which can be taken separately from the Second Voyage, Norman will focus on the movement analysis of the Seven Territories of the Voyage:
September 14-15 Mime and Pantomime: An exploration of the language of gesture, its history and its uses in actor-created theatre
September 28-19 Melodrama: An invitation to the big spaces of epic narrative storytelling and theatres of passion
October 12 - 13 Tragedy: The ancient Greek chorus, including its relationship to the tragic hero and the coryphe (chorus leader) is reinvented as a group body that carries image and text.
October 26 -27 Mystery Bouffons: Full-body masks allow the actor-creator to access both mystery and mockery, solo and in groups.
November 9 - 10 Social Grotesque: Once again, full-body, grotesque masks are ideal theatrical devices for mockery and trenchant social satire.
November 23 - 24 Commedia dell'Arte: The ancient half-masked comedy is re-invented with modern inspirations.
December 7 - 8 Clown: The red nose is the smallest mask, giving the actor access to heightened personal and physical comedy.
Saturdays, 1 pm - 9 pm, Norman will focus on the spatial and movement qualities of the Territory. Sundays 11 am - 5 pm, he will focus on constructing character within the Territory.
Fee: £250/weekend, or £1,500 for the entire series.
All workshops take place at Chisenhale Dance Space, 64 – 84 Chisenhale Road, E3 5QZ London.
