Four placements on the University's ‘Artists Access to Art Colleges’ scheme, which allows artists and designer-makers to realise a project using University facilities e.g. technical workshops, IT, lending library, lecture programme.
Closing dates for applications: 16 Sept 2019
Eligibility: Applicants must have at least one year's professional practice and be able to work with minimal technical support. Only MA / PhD students can apply directly after graduation. Artists on AA2A schemes run from 2017 to 2018 or before can now reapply.
AA2A schemes offer at least 100 hours access between Oct 2019 and April 2020
Facilities / areas offered: printmaking, wood, plaster, metal, jewellery, glass, ceramics, laser cutting, CAD labs, digital workshops, video, photography, life drawing studio, painting
All placements will also have access to the collections of Leicester City Council museums and galleries, and the University's 'Fluxus' and concrete poetry collections of avant-garde works
In exchange for access to facilities, AA2A artists are asked to propose ways in which their presence will benefit students e.g. technical demonstrations or talks about their work. Artists would not be asked to do this more than 3 times during their placement. Each Artist will have webpages on AA2A's website to document their project.
AA2A has a modest Artists Support Fund to cover travel, childcare and some materials costs (up to £350 for artists on benefits, and £250 if income is below £12,000 a year). This fund also includes a disabilities budget. AA2A particularly welcomes applications from artists with disabilities, from culturally diverse backgrounds and non-graduates.
Application packs are available directly from the host university.
