Maria Anastassiou presents the project and the film made in response to the historic port of entry for immigrants arriving in Britain; Tilbury in Essex. Join us for a boat trip along the Thames to Tilbury for a screening of the film, followed by a short presentation by Maria Anastassiou, refreshments and Romanian light buffet.
Taking as its entry point the booklet “Life in the UK” - required reading for all those seeking UK citizenship. Set against the transient landscape of the Thames Estuary and laden with traces of the ever shifting global narratives of commerce and migration, Anastassiou spent the last year connecting with local groups, including Romanian workers, Nigerian women asylum seekers and Filipino seafarers. With a lightness of touch she questions official narratives by revealing the everyday of living and working Tilbury.
Boarding will start at 3:45pm and the boat will depart 4pm sharp from Greenwich Pier. Please arrive promptly.
