Description

Whether you're a practiced sketcher seeking new techniques, or a terrified newbie wanting gentle tuition, my methods and guidance will help you to see and record architecture and landscape with immediacy and vitality.

I've chosen seven exciting venues, each with their own mix of spatial character and materiality, perfect for mixed media sketching:

2 Oct - Granary Sq., London £55 (discounted in return for feedback)

26 Oct - Barbican Estate, London £65

2 Nov - Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield £65

23 Nov - Arnolfini, Bristol £65

30 Nov - Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham £65

7 Dec - Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum £65

14 Dec - Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford £65

Each starts at 11am and ends at 3:30pm.

To book, go to: https://campsite.bio/tansyhargan and select a workshop.

I'll show you how to use a viewfinder to select and crop multiple compositions, and record them in grids across a sketchbook spread; allowing you to work on many frames at once.  A perfect method for on-the-hoof sketching, when time is short, yet there's so much inspiration. The rhythm and momentum of the thumbnail method makes for a super-productive, immersive, time on site. Generating a stash of scenes, abstractions, sensory information, notes, colour pairings, lines and forms.

I will also show you some of my own sketchbooks (viewable on Instagram @palimpsestparade), and share other quick site-recording techniques, such as tackling a blank page, mark making, and automatic writing.

I am an artist and landscape architect, with many years’ experience of university teaching.  I'm also an avid sketcher, gathering visual information wherever I go.

I'll bring everything you need for a day of layered mixed media sketching, from vintage papers to soft pastels, and bleed-proof gouache to micron pens and much more. I provide paper but not sketchbooks, so bring your own or buy one from me on the day.

Lunch (not included in the price) will be a sociable affair in a nearby vegan-friendly eatery the middle of the session, with time to chat and review progress.
