BAIT - Birmingham Artivists in Training, Applications Open, Free Radical, part of the Beatfreeks Collective


The programme offers: a serious opportunity for committed young artists with a socially engaged practice to grow in an environment which offers structured critique, inspiration, opportunities, and guidance. BAIT helps avoid the 'emerging' label by focusing on creative, critical, and professional aspects of an artist’s career.

• Weekly sessions on Monday's from 5pm - 8pm hosted at Beatfreeks HQ, Zellig, unless stated otherwise 
• Session led by Roger Robinson or guest industry experts
• Two pieces of work per member 
• One-to-one mentoring with Roger Robinson
• A budget for the group to have exchanged or go see work across the Country
• Connected to the Free Radical and Beatfreeks community and programme Alumni including a roster of practising producers and artists
• Access to the office at designated times for your own working practice

• Aged 16 - 30 (if under 18, we will require a letter confirming parental consent)
• Work in or want to work in art activism
• Be available for 20 weekly sessions across the year(see dates below) plus two ‘shows’ and an evaluation session
• Work in an art form 
• Must be based or have a strong connection to Birmingham (please be aware that sessions are hosted in Birmingham)

• We are interested in general art forms as well as ambitious cross-genre work, going beyond traditional theatre, music, dance, & literature 
• We are interested in artists who have a socially engaged or artivist approach to their work and artists who are willing to take risks with the work and be challenged in its production

• All sessions will run 5pm - 8pm
• Deadline to apply: Monday 2nd December, 12pm
• An interview process for applicants will take place on the week commencing 13th January
• The start date is Monday 3rd Feb
