Inspired by the photography of the Surrealist and Bauhaus period of the 1920s and 30s, this one-day workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about different ways of inventing images in the darkroom which cannot be seen through the camera.
During the first part of the workshop, you will be shown the principles of making a photogram and other experimental methods of printing images in black and white using your own negatives and found objects. You will be introduced to a range of techniques including:
The use of textures to create dreamlike images
Combining positive and negative images
Superimposing multiple negatives
The use of masks and collage
In the second part of the workshop, there will the opportunity to explore your own ideas using any number or combination of the techniques demonstrated.
This workshop is ideal for all ages and abilities. You do not need to be a photographer, but should have some previous darkroom experience.
The possibilities are infinite…
