It’s sixteen years since Waterside opened in Trafford but as we are currently closed, we want you to help us mark the occasion from home by celebrating the remarkable heroes all around us in our Heroes In Motion challenge.

Waterside houses the Cosgrove Hall Films Archive with some of the best loved animated TV heroes and characters from the 80s and 90s. To mark our 16th anniversary, we would like you have fun in creating something special for us at home, taking inspiration from our wonderful archive to celebrate the heroes in your lives.

The Heroes In Motion Challenge

To celebrate our birthday, Waterside is looking for short, made-at-home, animation clips to celebrate our everyday heroes.  You may want to use the Cosgrove Hall Films Archive as inspiration for your animation.

To mark our 16th birthday we’ll pick 16 entries to showcase on our website and put together a special screening when we reopen later in the year.

Useful information

Many of you might already be keen animators – but for those who are new to it – there are many apps out there that are very easy to use - such as FREE Stop Motion Studio app. We will be showing you different stop motion techniques to get your ideas rolling - including modelling with plasticine, collage and paper puppets.

The competition is open to all ages.

All entries will be housed on an online portal and we will choose 16 pieces to be included in a special Screenlight commission which will be displayed in the venue when we reopen as well as a special screening for entrants and invited guests.

Uploading your entry

The deadline for submissions is 1 June 2020.

You’ll need to send the animation you have created to us, via a link from We Transfer, Dropbox or other large file sharing platform.

You can complete the entry form, including a link to your animation here
