Community Participation Manager, Museums Northumberland - Woodhorn Charitable Trust

Description

Woodhorn Charitable Trust is the museums service for Northumberland operating four distinctly individual museums: Berwick Museum & Art Gallery, Hexham Old Gaol, Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum and Woodhorn Museum.

Museums Northumberland is the custodian of significant and diverse collections housed within four unique historic sites across a large and low-populated county. Two of our collections are of international importance; the Pitman Painters - the first collection of amateur art to be displayed permanently; and the Berwick-upon-Tweed Burrell Collection - the Northumbrian portion of the most significant private donation in Europe. Our sites and collections testify to key moments in world history and represent Northumberland’s role in shaping the world. Hexham Old Gaol is England’s first purpose-built prison, Berwick upon Tweed Museum and Art Gallery is housed in the Clock Block of England’s first planned Barracks, Morpeth Chantry contains the UK’s first Bagpipe Museum and Woodhorn Museum’s colliery is a Scheduled Ancient Monument within Europe’s largest coalfield.

The Trust provides an exciting range of educational opportunities and is the lead consortium partner for bait, our Arts Council England-sponsored Creative People & Places Project, delivering an ambitious programme of arts engagement, working with partners in South East Northumberland.

The Trust has recently become Northumberland's newest NPO with funding from Arts Council England. This ACE support should allow the Trust to develop its events and exhibitions programme in new and inspiring ways to reach and engage new and existing audiences across the communities of Northumberland.

To achieve our community engagement ambitions in year one of our 4 year NPO programme, Woodhorn has set out a clear ambition to create a widening network of grass-root advocates for our work through the establishment of a new network of community advisory panels. We plan to establish new and exciting volunteering opportunities, increasing the number and diversity of volunteer roles across the organisation.
