Purpose of the job
As a curator in the team, you will support Senior Curators/Historians in all aspects of the work of the Contemporary Conflict team. You will be involved in the acquisition, assessment, review and cataloguing of collections material relating to conflicts after 2001, with particular responsibility for art including photography, film and video work, as well as paintings, prints and drawings, sculpture, posters and ephemera. You will also be involved in managing relationships with contemporary artists relevant to the work of the team. The IWM has an internationally important collection, unique in its scale, depth and scope. Your practical archival and curatorial skills will be accompanied by strong visual and digital literacy, and an appreciation and knowledge of the material culture of contemporary conflicts.
You will also develop an understanding of all other aspects of the IWM collection relating to conflicts post-2001 and its potential for display and interpretation at all IWM branches and in all areas of IWM public offer. You will apply and develop knowledge and skills for the benefit of our audiences and put forward imaginative ideas for exhibitions and other elements of public programme. You will contribute to a working culture that is responsive, collaborative and committed, and an environment that welcomes curiosity and creativity. Finally, you will line-manage Assistant Curators and volunteers as required.
