Group Management Accountant, Village Underground


Type: Full time, 42.5 hours per week

Salary: Dependent on level of experience

Village Underground is searching for a Management Accountant to work alongside the Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day finances of its group of venues (Village Underground, Hackney Arts Centre) and to maximise the financial efficiency of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconciling all bank accounts

  • Overseeing the processing of weekly supplier payments

  • Processing weekly and monthly payroll

  • Reconciling and making monthly PAYE/NIC payments to HMRC

  • Reconciling pension contributions

  • Processing payroll, year end and filing P11D's with HMRC

  • Manage the day to day operations of F&B

  • Compiling the monthly management accounts - including monthly meetings with Group Financial Controller

  • Updating monthly event analysis spreadsheet on a regular basis -  past, current and future events

  • Tracking restaurant performance

  • Quarterly VAT returns

  • Compiling information for year end stat accounts - liaise with external accountants to produce the final documents

  • Assist with annual budget setting with Financial Controller

  • Annual return for HAC

Additional projects:

  • Ad hoc projects for management


  • Effective communication skills especially when discussing financials with non finance personnel

  • ACCA/CIMA part qualified or qualified by experience

  • Proficient in Excel with excellent attention to detail

  • Experience of using Xero accounting software for both accounting and payroll

  • Ability to work well in a small team and manage own time well

  • Ability to make continuous improvements to administrative processes

  • Experience working within the hospitality sector, specifically food

  • Someone with a hands-on, proactive approach; taking personal responsibility and initiative to prevent or resolve problems

  • Experience working within the arts sector would be advantageous

  • Experience of working with public and private subsidies for the arts is desirable
