Creative facilitator, Guildford

We make art with individuals during and after treatment, giving them some time away from the 'cancer treadmill' of being a patient.
Friendly, practical and pragmatic person with exceptional listening skills needed to assist in the delivery of regular 1.5 hour creative workshops on Thursday mornings in Guildford, Surrey.

You will be creative, with a wide range of visual arts and craft interests. Some experience in sharing your skills is helpful but not essential.

Our drop-in group is open and friendly, chatty and supportive of each other. This is not art therapy, instead we use art as an opportunity to be focussed, yet relaxed at the same time. An understanding of the range of emotions and the need to discuss them honestly, and the ability to be flexible according to individual need is key.

We meet in a bright, pleasant dedicated room. Materials are supplied. An enhanced DBS will be required and will be funded if necessary. Travel expenses also covered.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to develop their skills in planning and delivering creative workshops for a diverse group of patients and carers. There are no age restrictions, students and recent graduates are welcome to apply as are older people. You will be fully supported by the existing facilitator as you settle in, and by other staff and volunteers at the centre as you gain in confidence and experience.

In time it is anticipated that you will share responsibility for 50% of these sessions, so enthusiasm and reliability is important.
In the first instance, please email Diana at telling me a little about yourself, your own creative practice and why you think this role is right for you.
