More about 'This Wounded Island'
One town, one couple, forty years. Brought together by their jobs in the Chatham Dockyard, Bob and Rose meet as excited teenagers in the 70s. From their first date, it’s clear that this is the start of something special. But unknown to them, the course of their relationship is intrinsically tied to the fortunes of the dockyard, and when it’s suddenly closed in the early 80s, their lives are irrevocably changed. Recovering from their losses isn’t going to be easy.
‘This Wounded Island’ is a love story, and a love letter to Chatham.
This Wounded Island, is a new play, written by Kent-born and based playwright Natalie Mitchell, created with and through communities in Medway and North Kent. Told through a non-linear timeline, it examines the personal impact of a post-industrial Britain, taking in the social, political and economic realities faced by millions across the country. Through one couple, it explores what happens when your identity is closely tied to a job and place, and the consequences of losing them.
