We are a chamber orchestra with around 35 members, with membership by mutual agreement. Together with a choir, we form the Welwyn Garden City Music Society. We are looking for a new Leader to join us from September 2019 as we approach our Centenary. The Orchestra rehearses on Tuesday evenings during school terms at Templewood School, Pentley Park, Welwyn Garden City, 7.45-10pm. We present concerts four times a year on Saturday or Sunday evenings. Three of these concerts include choral works, and the fourth is purely orchestral.  Our repertoire is primarily classical.

Orchestra rehearsals and concerts are conducted by the Music Director.

The Orchestra Leader is responsible for guiding and advising the orchestra, in particular the string sections.  When needed, help on playing technique will be given and some string sectional rehearsals may be taken.  Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a rehearsal to meet and play with the Orchestra; during the session they will be asked to lead a short string section of approximately 15 minutes, covering one or two specific passages agreed in advance. This can be done either conducting, or from the violin, as preferred.

Payment is per rehearsal with an additional fee for each performance, paid at the end of each term. Rates of payment will depend on qualifications and experience.
