Assistant Researcher/Archivist, Antiques Dealership

Description

A London-based antiques dealership is looking for a contractor to maintain and grow the gallery's archival database. The individual should have a background in art history and be fluent in French or German. 


The successful candidate will be highly independent, have a high attention to detail, and be familiar with using libraries. Initially, much of the work will entail scanning catalogues and collections. These scans will then need to be processed and organised into files in an excel database. 


Further research tasks including provenance research may be required as the role develops and there may be opportunity for travel to libraries outside of London and the UK.  


Person Specification:

  • Background in art history
  • French or German-speaking 
  • Competent use of excel
  • Familiar with using library collections
  • Research experience


This position is a fixed contract for 4 months (full-time) or 6 months (part-time, 3.5 days per week) with the successful candidate invoicing the gallery monthly for the duration of the project. The total project budget is £6,000, therefore, if the candidate were to work on the project 5 days per week, the monthly invoice would total £1,500.


Potential for a long-term 2 day per week position as Gallery Archivist may be offered depending on performance and the evolution of the role.
