Dancers/Performers Required in Birmingham, American Export

Description

New York based visual artist, Jen Liu is seeking 2 female identifying dancers/performers of Northeast or Southeast Asian descent, aged 27-50 years old  and 3-4 dancers/performers of any age/identity.  This is for a new film which will be shot at Millennium Point, Birmingham 14 - 19 December 2019.

This short film tries to find new ways of mapping the relationship between western consumption and new tech labor, and Chinese industrial labor. It will be shot between Shanghai, China, and Birmingham, England through 2019, and will premiere March 2020.  It is related to a larger body of work, Pink Slime Caesar Shift (https://vimeo.com/256408374), itself based on a speculative proposal to embed secret messages in food networks to help with labor organizing amongst workers in South China.

Jen Liu is a visual artist working in video, choreographic performance and painting. In 2019 she is a Swatch Artist in Residence in Shanghai, China, and is preparing a new dance performance and installation commission for the Singapore Biennale 2019. www.jenliu.info

Liu’s new film is part of American Export, a programme of workshops, talks, film, performance and visual art at The University of Westminster and sites across Birmingham city centre. www.americanexport.info
