Applications are invited from individuals to join the Engagement and Learning team at London Metropolitan Archives (LMA). LMA is the largest local government archive repository in the United Kingdom. Based in Clerkenwell and administered by the City of London, its holdings run to around 100km of documents from 1067 to the present. LMA holds local government and other records for the Greater London area and the City of London. These collections have been awarded designated status by the Museums Libraries and Archives Council. LMA is an Accredited Archive Service.
The LMA is recruiting for an Intern (4 days per week, 8 months fixed term) to support the creation and delivery of events for the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) project Haringey Vanguard which will establish a community Black LGTBQ+ oral-history/memorabilia archive of recorded histories (1980s-present) in imminent danger of being lost forever.
Assisting and supporting the project’s Community Outreach Officer this post will contribute to and support the creation and delivery of exhibition material as well as the delivery of other outreach activities as required. The post will also have a role in supporting the wider team in the delivery of the monthly LGBTQ+ history club programme. The post will be based in the Engagement and Learning team at LMA, but due to the outreach nature of the role may on occasion be asked to work in other locations including at Haringey Archive and Museum services, based at Bruce Castle.
The post holder should be flexible, have good communication skills, be able to work as part of a team as well as have demonstrable experience of working with Black and other minority ethnic communities. An active interest in LGBTQ+ history is also desirable.
