Greater Manchester Combined Authority, House Proud and the LGBT Foundation are working together to explore the lack of LGBT visibility in retirement schemes and care settings.
Many LGBTQ residents feel unable to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity to staff and other residents and this project will look at reasons for this, the impact on residents, staff and visitors and the positive changes that could be made to increase diversity in these settings.
We are looking for 4 artists, makers or creative practitioners from any artform to deliver individual artist residencies in 4 retirement schemes and to work with both staff and residents to explore this topic with a view to opening up creative arts practice to the residents and co-produce a response to the theme.
Each artist will take up residence in a scheme for the equivalent of 10 days over a two-month period. The exact timeframe will be decided between staff, residents and the selected artist at each site to make sure it is the best fit for all.
We are open to proposals from any artform including photography, film, installation, written word and performance.
To be considered for this opportunity, please submit a single PDF containing the following:
-Your initial response to the brief (1 side of A4) including your current creative practice, your reasons for your interest in the residency and how you would use your residency time.
-A short statement outlining your understanding/ experience of LGBT issues and your experience and understanding of creative practice with older people
-A short CV
-Links to a maximum of 4 examples of your work or images of 4 examples of your work.
At each location, staff and residents will participate in the artist selection process to identify the right fit for them.
Please submit your application to: Lawrence.firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, 16th December at 5pm.
A budget of £2,500 is available for each residency and includes the artist fee and materials.
