We are looking to recruit talented and inspiring ukulele, samba & djembe classroom teachers to join our pool of freelancers. We are looking for teachers to start placements working in our London primary schools on a freelance basis, with most school placements consisting of four half-hour lessons on a weekday afternoon. We are particularly looking for individuals who are willing to travel to West London and/or Enfield, though we also have positions available across our network of schools.
Main purpose of the job
Ark’s thriving music programme currently supports over 10,000 children across the country every week. In addition to vocal work and enrichment activities, pupils from Years 3-6 enjoy four years of whole-class instrumental teaching: samba/djembe for Years 3 & 4 and ukulele for Years 5 & 6. We have opportunities for inspiring teachers to work in each of these disciplines (Samba, Djembe and Ukulele), delivering high-quality lessons across the academic year.
The ideal candidate will:
- have a genuine passion for and belief in the potential of every young person
- be an excellent teacher and music educator
- Be an active musician
Successful applicants will join our portfolio of musician educators who work across our schools. These ‘Artists in Residence’ are freelancers who deliver aspects of the Ark Music Programme, often working on year-long placements, with some occasional additional work available on our network-wide events. By joining our Artist team, you will have access to high-quality training throughout the year and opportunities to network with our diverse roster of musicians.
We are keen to ensure that our team is reflective of the diverse communities we serve. We actively encourage candidates from a variety of backgrounds, particularly Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) applicants.
Start date: From September 2020 on a freelance basis.
Closing date for applications: We are accepting applications on a rolling basis.
Fee: Our Artist pay scale starts at £60 for an hour’s teaching and £100 for two hours’ teaching
