A new play exploring LGBTQIA+ experiences of loneliness & belonging

Produced by Exeter Northcott Theatre

Exeter Northcott is looking for a Stage Manager (On The Book) who will play a key role in the Production team for The Beat of Our Hearts, ensuring good communication between the rehearsal room and the rest of the production team, calling technical and dress rehearsals and all performances, and playing a key role in maintaining high production values.


Rehearsals: 4–28 Jan 2022

Tech/Dress Rehearsals: 31 Jan - 2 Feb 2022

Performances: 3-5 Feb 2022

All activity will take place in or near Exeter


Personal Qualities

  • Self-disciplined, organised and self-motivating
  • Ability to work as part of or lead a flexible team, responding to challenges, contributing ideas, supporting other team members
  • Ability to remain calm and work under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build rapport with people at all levels
  • Able to problem solve

Professional Competencies (Essential)

  • Experience as Deputy Stage Manager, to include rehearsals and calling technical rehearsals (this could be within a training setting)
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety practices within theatre
  • Excellent IT, administrative and organisational skills

Professional Competencies (Desirable)

  • Professional experience as Deputy Stage Manager and/or Stage Manager working with a producing theatre/company
  • Experience sourcing and maintaining props
  • Good working knowledge of the UK Theatre/Equity agreement for Performers and Stage Management contracted by Subsidised Managers
  • Full UK driving license
  • Based within commutable distance of Exeter
  • First Aid qualification


5 weeks payable at £500.00 per week

Subsistence Allowance of £181.05 per week if required to stay away from home, plus associated travel costs reimbursed.
