About our Award
The Axisweb Research and Development Bursary seeks to support members in the evolution of ideas to support their artistic practice.

There will be three rounds of the R&D Bursary in 2020 supporting a total of six awards, two per round. Successful recipients each receive £500, access to advice and support from Axisweb staff / Trustees.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for applications from artists able to demonstrate a critical framework in approach and have a desire to challenge their practice.

This is about your development and how our R&D Bursary can support and develop your ideas and ambition. You will have a clear idea of the type of research and development you need. This could include, but is not limited to: Attending a series of workshops or classes, self initiated residencies, meeting a specific artist, spending time in archives or visiting exhibitions.

While we do not require a concrete outcome, we would like to share your experience with the rest of our members. Examples of documentation could include a short piece of reflective writing or photographs of your progression.

What the Award Offers?

  • In Round 1, £500 each for two Axisweb members.
  • Mentoring and advice from the Axisweb team / Trustees.
  • Promotion through our website and social media platforms.


In your application you must:

  • Evidence a strong and consistent body of work and independent practice.
  • Demonstrate how your proposal relates to the development of your artistic practice. (We are especially interested in why it is the right time for you receive this support.

Applications are open to individuals and collaborative groups as long as all applicants are members.
