Job Summary

We are seeking a Records and Information Governance Officer to join the BFI’s Records and Information Governance team within the Knowledge, Learning and Collections directorate.

Job Description

This role combines responsibilities across Records Management, Freedom of Information and Data Protection.

You will manage Freedom of Information and Data Protection requests, ensuring responses are accurate, fair, and compliant with statutory deadlines. You will support audits of personal data processing and wider compliance activities to help ensure the BFI meets its legal and regulatory obligations.

You will contribute to the delivery of the Records Management and Information Governance programme by improving the management, protection, and accessibility of both physical and digital records. This includes supporting the development of new processes and practical solutions that improve organisational efficiency and compliance. You will provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues, promote good information governance practice, and deliver training to build capability across the organisation.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work with the BFI's institutional records and gain insight into the day-to-day running of a complex cultural organisation. We are looking for someone with proven experience in records management and information governance, supported by a relevant qualification or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Job Requirements

Main aims are to:

  • Respond to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) and Data Protection legislation (UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018)

  • Promote good information governance practice by educating colleagues about Records Management, FOI and Data Protection responsibilities through guidance, internal communications, and training

  • Support delivery of the Records Management and Information Governance programme by improving the management of physical and digital records, enhancing organisational efficiency, and strengthening legislative compliance

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • A qualification in Archives/Records Management/Information Governance or equivalent professional experience in a records and information governance environment, including Freedom of Information and Data Protection activities

  • Working knowledge of information legislation, in particular Data Protection legislation (UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018) and the Freedom of Information Act 2000

  • Practical experience handling FOI and Data Subject Rights requests to statutory deadlines

  • Experience of working with record-keeping systems and structures, across a variety of media formats, both physical and digital, in an archives or Records Management environment and applying related standards
