Event Description
As part of Queen Mary University of London's Climate Action Week, Alani and Alessandro invite you to step into the fantastic world of fungi. This interactive event includes talks and a hands-on practical mushroom activity. Together we will explore some topics within the extensive field of fungi such as: low tech cultivation and rethinking our systems of food/waste and society through a fungal lense. Following discussions you will get to do a practical mushroom cloning where you will get to take home your very own mycelium "pet" and watch grow! Alani, a local mushroom farmer for MADLEAP has been working in the field of regenerative agriculture for 5 years, with a current focus on low tech urban mushroom cultivation. Engaged in local food justice activism they bring in practical experience to redesigning systems. Alessandro is a fantastic researcher and lecturer at Queen Mary in accounting. He has done work using mushrooms as metaphors for systems thinking, encouraging high-level accountants to think differently about how sustainability might be approached.
