Event Description

Apollo Painting School is a 3-month summer programme for UK-based emerging painters, combining online study, in-person teaching in Manchester, and a one-month residency in Italy, culminating in a final group exhibition in the medieval town of Sermoneta. Key dates & schedule 27 May-23 July 2026: weekly online session every Wednesday + in-person teaching every Thursday in Manchester (9 weeks). 31 July-30 August 2026: residency in Latina, Italy. Full attendance is required. What you'll do - Develop and expand your painting practice through process-led experimentation, discussion and critique. - Take part in lectures with art professionals and internationally recognised artists, plus off-site drawing projects. - Receive personal feedback and cohort critiques moderated by main tutor Dr Ian Hartshorne. - During the Italy residency: work in shared studios (Mon-Sat, 8am-2pm) at Liceo Artistico Statale Michelangelo Buonarroti; prepare work for the final exhibition; join mandatory day trips and a weekly guided visit to Rome. What you'll get - Structured teaching, mentoring and strong peer support. - A month of dedicated studio time in Italy (Latina) with cultural immersion (host-family accommodation and a bicycle provided). - A public final exhibition at Palazzo Ada Caetani, a building from the 16th Century in the medieval town of Sermoneta.
