Event Description

Join us to watch 'Transit', a film screening from Cultures of Film in partnership with Holocaust Centre North. Transit (2018) is a drama by Christian Petzold that blends WWII-era narrative with a modern setting to create a haunting, timeless story of exile. The film follows Georg, a German refugee who escapes to Marseille after Nazi forces occupy France. To gain passage out of the country, he assumes the identity of a deceased writer whose travel papers he carries. As he waits in bureaucratic limbo, Georg becomes entangled with the writer's estranged wife, Marie, who is desperately searching for her missing husband-unaware Georg is living under his name. The story explores themes of identity, displacement, and the ghostlike state of refugees caught between past and future, rendered in a surreal world where historical and contemporary elements coexist. Thursday 26 February 5pm - 7:30pm OA3/13 (third floor, room 13), Oastler Building, University of Huddersfield, Queensgate, HD1 3DH What3Words location: ///knots.hunter.trains
