Event Summary
Event Description
This two-day training course will explore BPT's Way of Doing. You'll learn some tricks of the trade about the how, why, when and who of all things 'producing' with communities.
While the course is rooted in theatre, the skills, approaches and tools we share are fully transferable across the wider creative sectors. If your practice involves bringing people together to co-create something, this training will strengthen it.
Our 2-day course will cover:
Holding power with care: an introduction to our practical https://brightonpeoplestheatre.org/bpt-way-of-being/ - Way of Being and Way of Caring tools for producers to navigate responsibility, risk, and radical inclusion.
Co-creation as a political act: unpacking how shared ownership and authorship can transform the work we produce, the responsibilities producers have to hold, and an exploration of our spectrum of power sharing.
Building trust with communities: authentic strategies for engagement that move beyond 'outreach' and into genuine collaboration.
Producing the process: choosing, contracting and supporting artists, and what happens when it all goes wrong.
Our approach in the room is co-created. The training is highly collaborative and participatory. Expect to be contributing alongside learning. We'll share our lived practice, case studies, and provocations, and we'll invite you to bring yours. The training will model our https://brightonpeoplestheatre.org/bpt-way-of-being/ - Way of Being values: open, playful, fearless and respectful.
The training is suitable for:
- Experienced artists who self produce looking to deepen or disrupt their producing practice
- Emerging or established producers hungry for more equitable ways of making work
- Graduates seeking practical tools for co-creating within the https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/lets-create - Arts Council's Let's Create framework
