This half-day course is designed to provide those working in creative, cultural and heritage organisations, as well as freelance and independent practitioners, with an understanding of health and safety regulations and how they apply to the sector. Whether you're managing a gallery, planning a public event, working in a theatre or museum, or working independently in shared spaces, this session will equip you with the tools to create safer environments.

- Why health & safety matters - Its role in protection, responsibility, and professionalism
- Dispelling myths - Facts vs. misconceptions around health and safety regulations
- Legislation & policies - Key requirements for organisations, freelancers, and the self-employed
- Identifying hazards & risks - Understanding what constitutes a risk to others' health and safety
- Risk assessments - The 5-step process, explored with sector-specific case studies
- Safe working systems - Managing risks and implementing the Hierarchy of Control
- Safe workplaces - Essential practices for creating safer public and staff spaces
- COSHH assessments - Managing hazardous substances effectively
- Culture & compliance - The HSE Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model for developing a safety culture
- Managing stress - Strategies to identify and address workplace stress
You will learn how to:
- Understand and apply health and safety regulations specific to the sector
- Conduct effective risk assessments and manage hazards
- Ensure safety for yourself, staff, visitors, and contractors
- Prevent accidents and promote safer working practices
- Implement effective health and safety policies and stay compliant with standards
