Event Summary

Our Careers Evening is a chance for young people to meet and hear from people who are earning a living through music, including, but not limited to, as a performer.

Event Description

The event aims to help Newham's young people find out about the music industry and plot their creative journey. This will take place at Rosetta Arts.

Partner organisations attending include Yeah Youth, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Breakin' Convention, University of East London, National Youth Jazz Orchestra, ELAM, Shadow to Shine and Small Green Shoots.

We'll also be hosting a workshop with Mich Nnadi of Warner Label, a music performance from MIRI, a drop-in CV clinic, and talks from professionals across a range of careers.

Programme:
16:00 - 19:00
Network with stallholders - Learn about the work of different London-based organisations and find out about potential opportunities

16:15 - 16:45; 17:00 - 17:30 Syncing Workshop: Music for TV and Film with Michelle Nnadi.
LIMITED CAPACITY.

Michelle is Global Asset Coordinator for Warner's Global Sync Department. Mish's journey is a testament to the power of early career networking.

MIRI'S performance will be followed by a drop-in Q+A.

16:30 - 18:30 Drop in CV clinic with Newham Music - get advice on your CV presentation, content and format from Newham Music's team

18:00 - 18:30 Panel: Music Can Pay the Bills with artist Young Athena, archivist Naz from Newham and artist-educator Nia Ekanem.

Listen to young artists and cultural professionals discuss how they overcame institutional inequalities and bias against music as a professional industries to carve out successful careers.

18:30 - 19:00 In Conversation: Backstage Careers

With award winning production manager Pembe Tokluhan and rapper, audio producer Mae-Li Evans, and educator and youth professional development leader Shay Mula

Where: Rosetta Arts, Stratford, 1 Hamilton Rd, London E15 3AE

Who? For young people aged 14-21 who are interested in a career in the music industry, plus their parents/guardians. (Parents/guardians must be accompanied by a young person!)
