This 1-day workshop at Stanley Arts by award-winning site-specific performance artist Geraldine Pilgrim looks at ways of developing narratives inspired by site, creating atmospheres using objects and the use of space in site-specific performance. Location: Society Room Date: Mar 22 Time: 10:00 am till 5:00 pm Tickets: £50 Through a series of individual and collaborative exercises, the workshop explores devising non-verbal work, text as a visual language, the body in relation to site and the dynamics of architectural space. The workshop will also include discussions on the nature of site-specific practice. No previous experience is necessary only a desire to experiment with using non- theatrical spaces for performance Geraldine Pilgrim is an award-winning site-specific director/designer and installation artist working across theatre and the visual arts. She is known for her socially engaged, participatory works creating contemporary dialogues with occupied and empty buildings, landscapes and historic houses, where the architecture of the site is used as inspiration and narrative together with the history - imagined and real - of the space. Her works have taken place in the UK and Europe in sites that range from cemeteries and castles to factories and hospitals. Trained as a fine artist and theatre designer she co-founded and became Artistic Director of Hesitate and Demonstrate, an influential touring visual theatre company and with Geraldine Pilgrim Performance Company, has since been making site-specific performances, installations and theatre- based work. She is an Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins UAL and from 2019 until its closure in 2024, she created and led an MA in site-specific theatre practice for Mountview based at Shoreditch Town Hall.
