This two-part Commedia dell'Arte training weekend is structured as an afternoon workshop on Saturday followed by a full-day masterclass on Sunday. Saturday - Commedia Archetypes & Mask Techniques Open to beginners, this session introduces the main Commedia archetypes and their distinctive physical language (posture, rhythm, movement and vocal expression). Through practical exercises we will develop character work while introducing the fundamental principles of performing with masks. Sunday - Masterclass: Creating a Canovaccio This full-day workshop is designed for participants who attended the Saturday session or who already have some experience of Commedia dell'Arte. The focus shifts to the dramaturgy and structure of Commedia performance. We will explore comic devices such as motifs, repetition, asides, slapstick routines and chase sequences. Working together, the group will develop a canovaccio (Commedia scenario) and experiment with staging selected scenes. By the end of the weekend participants will gain a clearer understanding of Commedia characters, mask technique and the creation of comic scenarios.
