The York International Shakespeare Festival has released its 2026 line up. The eighth edition of the Festival runs from 21 April to 3 May 2026, and as usual features performances from across Europe and beyond, all grounded in Shakespeare's work. The highlights include: US performer Lisa Wolpe, with her show Shakespeare and the Alchemy of Gender With Love's Light Wings, from Georgia; a 'theatrical experience' inspired by Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare and Rome, a collaboration with York Museums Trust Codename Othello, a UK/Ukraine collaboration, featuring performers from York and Ivano Frankivsk, Ukraine The world premiere of A Kingdom Jack'd by US playwright Scott Bradley New work from York-based Ukrainian theatre company, D.Space Productions of The Taming of the Shrew and Richard 3 from Romania - the latter a solo performance by celebrated Romanian actor, Liviu Cheloiu Productions of Hamlet from Romania and from Sadie Jemmett's new UK company Common Ground, and a day exploring David Gothard's Hamlet archive Timonopoly by Emily Carding - an Edinburgh Fringe award winner Petty Men, the European Festival Network 'Shakesphere' selection … and much more - over 40 events - staged across York at Festival partners York St John University and Theatre@ 41 Monkgate, Friargate Theatre, The Yorkshire Museum, and Merchant Adventurers Hall. Prices for others range from £5-£15, with a 10% booking fee for those tickets booked in advance.
