In this talk, Eric Wong takes you behind the scenes of his collaboration with one of Japan's most visionary directors, Mamoru Hosoda. He offers a rare insight into the design process of the world "U" in the acclaimed anime film"Belle," revealing how architectural styles, urban infrastructure, branding, fashion, and 3D modeling created one of anime's most imaginative digital worlds. Biography: Eric Wong is an architect, senior lecturer, and PhD candidate whose work and research combines "world-building" and architecture to explore the experience of the immersive digital environment. He is best known for designing the virtual world "U" in collaboration with oscar-nominated director Mamoru Hosoda. For the film, Wong developed a tessellating metropolis of skyscrapers to contrast the magical surrealism of the characters. His work has been widely published and exhibited including RIBA Journal, Architects Journal, Blueprint Magazine, Dezeen, Design Boom, BBC, VICE through to the Design Museum, World Architecture Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and Sir John Soane Museum. His professional experience as an architect includes working at CJ Lim Studio 8 and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM). He studied at Byam Shaw School of Art, Central St. Martins, received his BArch from Cardiff University, and Masters from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
