Event Description

1 hour from London, discover world-class events, up close, in this pastoral, typically arts devoid area of England. On Kent's Romney Marsh, JAM on the Marsh returns with a stunning array of outstanding international & local artists, lighting up the coast with music, theatre, film & art exhibitions. The festival unfolds in a variety of locations; from intimate mediaeval churches to local gardens & steam railway carriages; bringing the arts to unexpected places. Highlights of this year's festival include a rare performance by Alexander Armstrong & Claire Booth performing the "audacity & rouge" of Noel Coward, Ivor Novello & the Great American Songbook of the Roaring 20s, National Theatre Live screenings of Les Liaisons Dangereuses & one of the world's great brass ensembles, Black Dyke Band, in the intimate Marsh setting before the Proms. Bring a picnic & enjoy Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing by irreverent open-air Changeling Theatre under the big Marsh sky. Blending familiar with new, experience a rare 4-hand 1 piano recital including Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition by Thomas Kelly & John Frederick Hudson. Sky Arts' Cyrill Ibrahim & JAM Sinfonia take to the stage with two reimagined masterworks: Ravel's Piano Concerto & Debussy's La Mer. Fenella Humphreys (violin) will entrance with an intimate recital of Bach, Beamish & Biber. JAM's summer Composer Residency culminates in the premieres for accordion performed by captivating Ryan Corbett. The achievements in our regular workshops of community singers & artists will be celebrated in performance & exhibitions. As 1 of 3 free exhibitions, experience the days, intricacies & tactile qualities of relief mark making in a breath-taking exhibition by Jillian Bain Christie. Explore the Romney Marsh landscape, beach walks, steam railway, pubs with rooms & JAM on the Marsh. Discover the Marsh for an unforgettable experience. Tickets: £0-£25; no booking fee Full programme & tickets: www.jamconcert.org
