Event Summary

Online Talk/Discussion: Communal Programming will begin with an event where we will collectively break down and rethink the idea of creative residencies.

Event Description

Online, Wednesday, May 27th 2026, 6-730pm: Now that their tenth serial zine is out, the editorial team at No Jobs in the Arts are moving from thinking about what they can do, to 'what we can do together, as a regional community of creatives?'. Today, they are announcing Communal Programming, a series of conversations centred on shaping the organisation's future programming to support creative people. Sign-up (free). Communal Programming will begin with an event where we will collectively break down and rethink the idea of creative residencies. We understand a residency to be a temporary program offering creatives time, space, and sometimes funding to focus on their work. The schedule for the event follows: >Talk | 6-6:30pm | Wot we done, then? Unpicking No Jobs in the Arts' previous experimental programming and outputs, from in-person, online, at-home and whilst-travelling residencies. >Group Discussion | 6:30-7:30pm | Let's 'av' a go, then! An hour to collectively explore the future of residencies, what they could be and what they should offer creatives. Participants will be invited to contribute to a 'living document' that will remain live for 24-hours following the event, and directly shape the next iteration of No Jobs in the Arts programming. This is not a passive event. During Communal Programming, anyone can contribute to the record, allowing ideas and thoughts to circulate and be explored during and after the gathering (including by those who were unable to attend). Communal Programming serves as an opportunity for emerging creatives, and those supporting our sector and work, to gather and share. This ensures that the events and activities we design to support freelance practices continue to be accessible, industrially integrated, sustainable, and of value to our communities. The event is free, but to access the online event, you must register through Eventbrite.
