Event Summary
You are invited to Tales in Textiles: Leicester Folklore. A solo exhibition of forgotten local legends reimagined by artist Samantha Jayne Peberdy. Expect mystical creatures, immersive artwork and magical stories.
Event Description
Step into a world of Leicester folklore, myths, and forgotten stories through immersive installation, textiles, and sound. Leicester-based immersive artist Samantha Peberdy presents a new Arts Council England funded exhibition exploring local legends passed through generations - from Black Annis and roaming griffins to hidden fairies and strange creatures said to wander the Leicestershire countryside after dark. Blending traditional craft with immersive technology, the exhibition transforms the space into a sensory journey inspired by storytelling, nature, and folklore. Visitors are invited to explore large-scale textile installations, atmospheric soundscapes, interactive elements, and handmade artworks that reimagine Leicester's rich folklore in a contemporary and accessible way. Designed for all ages, the exhibition encourages curiosity, imagination, and playful exploration, creating a welcoming space where stories can be experienced rather than simply observed. Alongside the exhibition, three immersive art tent installations will continue to be displayed at Leicester Central Library throughout the summer. Opening Night: Friday 29th May 2026, 6pm - 9pm (LCB Lates) Exhibition Open: Saturday 30th May 2026, 2pm - 9pm (2pm - 5pm family viewing) Tuesday 2nd June 2026, 10am - 4pm (Quiet viewing) Wednesday 3rd June 2026, 10am - 4pm Venue: StudionAme 2 Brougham Street Leicester LE1 2BA Free entry - all welcome.
