Join expert speakers at the Royal College of Physicians exploring the history of medicinal plants from India and Ayuverdic practices.

Event Description

Join us on 1 June from 2-5pm, where Dr. Arjun Devanesan, intensive care physician, philosopher and RCP garden fellow will introduce the afternoon's speakers. Dr Suzanne Newcombe, senior lecturer in religious studies at the Open University, will deliver her lecture: 'Indigenous drugs and accusations of quackery in colonial India'. A tour of the RCP garden of medicinal plants and break will follow with an opportunity to visit the exhibition 'A Body of Knowledge: 500 years of book collecting at the RCP' and see a special mini-display relating to medicinal plants from India. After the break Dr Karen O' Brian-Kop, lecturer in modern Asian religions at Kings College London will present the lecture 'Colonial circulations of Ayuvedic medicinal plants: from Kolkata to Kew'. Tickets: £20 for RCP Members, £25 for non-members
