Get ready to dive into the fascinating history of stinging nettles! Learn how to transform this prickly plant into a beautiful and sustainable thread.
Event Description
Historic textile artist Katie Sawyer will guide you through the history of the nettle plant, including food, fibre and mythology in an engaging talk. Following the talk, she will walk you through the process of creating your own thread in a hands on workshop. You will also get to see Katie's in progress artwork: a cordage nettle shirt inspired by the Wild Swans fairytale. The talk will be at the July meeting of the North Cheshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers. Venue address is: Croft Memorial Hall, Mustard Lane, Croft, Warrington, Cheshire, WA3 7BQ The Guild website is available here: https://www.northcheshireswd.co.uk/ Attendance is FREE for Guild members, and £5 for visitors. Workshop is an additional £10/person. The talk will begin at 11:30am, but the venue opens from 10am. To book onto the workshop, contact [email protected], workshop places are limited and first come first served. Pre booking is not needed to attend the talk. For the workshop, no prior experience is necessary, all materials and tools are provided. Please bring a pair of rubber or gardening gloves if possible to reduce the need for single use disposable gloves. The workshop will progress at your pace, with as many breaks as you want, lasting around 1.5 hours. Some hand dexterity is needed to process the nettles, Katie can assist with any difficult parts.
