Event Summary

The screen industries are already a defining force in the North’s creative and economic landscape — shaping how our places are seen, how our economy grows, and how global audiences connect with our stories.

Event Description

From major television dramas and independent film productions, including Bridgerton, Peaky Blinders and Patience, to global success stories such as Adolescence being filmed at Production Park, the impact of screen production extends far beyond the screen itself. It drives growth across hospitality, tourism, retail, construction, transport, skills, education and the wider visitor economy. Each production brings visible and invisible value - supporting local businesses, attracting inward investment, and strengthening the cultural identity of place.

The evening will feature a screening of a selection of short films curated by Film Hub North. The films include Meat Raffle by Stuart Armstrong, Safe by Debbie Howard, Giants by Andy Berriman and Rocket Fuel by Jordan Scot Kennedy. The screening will be accompanied with an audience Q&A and a DJ, drinks and networking. Free to attend

We are delighted to welcome speakers from Film Hub North and Screen Yorkshire, including Jen Bradfield (Film Hub North) and Caroline Cooper-Charles (Screen Yorkshire), who will share insight into the scale of the opportunity ahead and the practical steps needed to ensure the North competes confidently on a national and international stage. We will also hear from award-winning filmmakers discussing working in the region.

This is about more than attracting productions - it's about building the conditions for sustained cultural and economic growth. Places where talent stays, businesses scale, stories are developed, and creative careers thrive.

The North has often been seen as a backdrop for storytelling. The opportunity now is to strengthen its role as a centre of production, ownership and creative leadership.
