Event Summary
Event Description
Reflecting on her practice-based PhD project, Susan Francis will attempt to unravel that entanglement in her own work. Tracking each node of her enquiry back to its source, and forward to its point of departure, Susan explores how these 'shocks to thought' have impacted her PhD arts based research. With that most fundamental embodiment of human experience, the house, at the centre of her research, the talk will introduce the audience to medieval mystics, cloud methodology and quantum theology, as the artist seeks to understand our material entanglement with the lived environment.
The talk will discuss how that ontological bond has been threatened, and how a return to re-enchantment and wonder might be enacted through the art making process.
Susan is a Belfast born artist, curator and writer now living and working in Wiltshire. Through both digital and analogue hand-made processes, she creates poetic, unsettling, and quietly seductive objects and installations that immerse the viewer in a fragile and transcendent space. These draw from the aesthetics, the materiality, and the shared narratives of the lived environment.
Join us on Tuesday, 3 November 2026 at 5:30pm for this insightful discussion. The talk is free to attend but pre-booking is required.
