Job Summary
Job Description
As a board we have recently reflected on our skills and lived experiences, therefore we are specifically looking for trustees that are one or more of the following:
- A BSL user
- Business and commercial specialist
- Global Majority
- Young (age under 35)
- Visually Impaired
- Working Class
We are looking for people who can bring their ideas and experience to our board and also champion and advocate for us.
Job Requirements
It's a commitment of time, engagement, and care.
We want our Trustees to feel inspired, not overwhelmed. To ensure you get the most out of the role - and that we support the company effectively - we find that the most successful Trustees are those who can
- serve for at least a 3-year term
- think strategically and ask challenging questions
- contribute to group discussions and collective decision-making
- prepare for meetings and read papers in advance
- see our shows out on tour
- engage with supporters
- support the executive team as and when needed (this might be via a phone call, a Teams online meeting or indeed in our office in Marsden)
- meet and chat with our actors and creatives, who you will meet at shows
- enjoy working collaboratively and value inclusive, respectful spaces even if sometimes we have robust discussions
Job Responsibilities
Trustees are required to attend four general meetings annually, including an AGM (March) and a strategy day (September), which both require in-person attendance. While most other meetings occur online and dates are set collaboratively, trustees must prepare by reading papers beforehand to ensure meetings are productive.
A minimum 75% attendance expectation for both general and subcommittee meetings is in place. Although the board is flexible and offers support if a trustee's capacity changes, consistent attendance is vital for the board to function well.
To stay connected to the mission, trustees are also expected to attend at least one production per year.
This role carries the dual responsibilities of being a Company Director and a Charity Trustee.
