Job Description
Drive the Funding Strategy for County Durham's New Cultural Landmark
Opening in summer 2026, The Light will be County Durham's bold new cultural venue-an ambitious home for contemporary arts, science, innovation and community engagement. To support this pioneering programme, we're recruiting a strategic and energetic Fundraising & Development Officer to establish and grow our fundraising portfolio from the very beginning. Working closely with the Artistic Director, you will help build the financial foundations that enable The Light's creative vision to thrive.
About the Role
You'll develop and deliver a fundraising strategy across trusts, foundations, corporate partners, government bodies and individual giving. You will lead bids, grow supporter relationships and create strong donor journeys and cases for support. The role includes managing campaigns, storytelling, donor events and digital giving initiatives, as well as overseeing budgets, reporting and data. Working closely with colleagues across The Light and the wider Culture Service, you'll help build a sustainable, future focused funding model for this major new cultural venue.
About You
You will be an experienced cultural fundraiser with a strong income-generation track record. Skilled in bid writing, prospect research and donor stewardship, you will be a confident communicator who can inspire funders and stakeholders. You'll combine strategic thinking with strong project management, creativity and adaptability, and be motivated by building something new.
What We Offer
A unique opportunity to shape the fundraising strategy for a landmark venue, supportive leadership, strong sector networks, room for innovation, competitive salary, local government benefits and flexible working.
What You'll Need
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
