Job Summary

Club Des Chouchous seeks an experienced native French-speaking Lead Performer to deliver weekly storytelling sessions in one assigned school or nursery in North or West London. The role combines performance, language learning and classroom leadership within a structured term-time programme.

Job Description

The Lead Performer will be assigned to one school or nursery and will be responsible for delivering a weekly French storytelling session (30-60 minutes) at that venue. We are currently looking to fill the following weekly sessions: Tuesdays, 12:30-13:00 (Muswell Hill, North London) Thursdays, 10:00-11:00 (North London) These are the sessions currently available. As we continue expanding our programme and adding new partner schools and nurseries, additional weekly sessions may become available for performers who are interested in taking on more venues. The performer is responsible for preparing (we send weekly new stories) and delivering engaging sessions combining storytelling, music, character performance and sensory elements, primarily in French. This is a term-time role beginning Summer Term 2026, with continuation into the following academic year. Each session represents approximately 1-2 hours of work per week including preparation.

Job Requirements

Native French speaker (essential)
Minimum several years' experience working with children (education, theatre, childcare or similar)
Strong storytelling, singing and improvisation skills
Confident leading groups independently
Enhanced DBS (required)
Registered on DBS Update Service (essential)
Right to work in the UK
Based in or able to travel to North or West London
Ability to invoice (payment via bank transfer every two weeks)
Reliable, punctual and able to commit for the agreed term

Fee: £30-£50 per session (depending on group size and duration)

Job Responsibilities

Deliver weekly French-language storytelling sessions at an assigned school or nursery
Prepare and memorise required stories, songs and materials in advance
Ensure all props, music and technical requirements are set up before the session
Arrive 15 minutes prior to each session and allow time for tidy-up and handover
Manage classroom behaviour confidently and positively
Build rapport with children and create a safe, engaging environment
Adapt delivery according to age group and group size
Uphold safeguarding standards at all times
Maintain professional communication with school staff and the Founder
Arrange suitable DBS-cleared cover if unavailable
