Job Summary

The Rory Young House Trust is a new body, set up to create and launch a museum for craft experience in Cirencester. The founders now wish to strengthen the Board with financial expertise.

Job Description

We are seeking an individual to bring key skills to the Board and are keen to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: Commercial and financial leadership, including income generation, budget management and financial oversight. Environmental sustainability, including climate action and embedding sustainable organisational practice. A role in the heritage, charity, arts or conservation sectors with strong operational understanding. The board will be small and hands-on and all members will contribute to developing the concept, its creation and success.

Job Requirements

A business professional with financial management expertise. A knowledge of charity finance and governance is an advantage. Otherwise, an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs. Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations. A strategic thinker with good financial analysis skills and an ability to balance risk and opportunity. Clear communicator with the ability to bring the financial information alive to non-finance specialists. Willing to play an active role in areas such as planning, forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with auditors.

Job Responsibilities

Lead on business and financial planning and the oversight of fundraising. Oversee the financial affairs of the charity including banking arrangements, and ensure they are legal, and within accepted accounting practice. Oversee the presentation of budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements. Ensure that proper records are kept, and that appropriate financial procedures and controls are in place. Lead on appointing and liaising with external auditors/an independent examiner as required by the Charity Commission. Ensure that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission. Fulfill the role requirements of Company Secretary
