Job Summary
Quick-fire scratch night for adventurous new writing in theatre and performance! The Scrap is an open-access night for writers, actors and directors to try out new ideas, meet one another, and showcase their work in front of an audience. Live music, good drinks, and cool new theatre.
Job Description
The Scrap is a monthly open-call night for new writing, designed to showcase freshly developing texts for performance, and bring artists together to collaborate and keep their instincts sharp - while celebrating communal creativity! The Scrap is a one-day commitment. Every Scrap opens with a 25 minute set from a band or musician, to kick us off in style and welcome folks to the event. You start playing around 7pm, and then sit back and enjoy the show. We're currently programming up until May, and looking for musicians, comedians, or anyone willing to open the night with an entertaining flair. Job Requirements
We're open to most musical styles and ensemble make-ups, but if your music tends to be a little screechy, gritty, hardcore etc. - we love this - but it might not be right for the evening. Pop, roots, folk, rhythm, indie rockers, absolutely. Let us know what you've got and we can try to make it work! We're also to hear from comedians, or any type of act that you think would work in opening our Scrap Night! Sound check is at around 6pm, starting your set at around 7pm.
Job Responsibilities
We've had pop artists, shoegaze bands, doom-organists, jazz combos, stand-ups. We love the weird and we love the fun. That said, The Scrap takes place in a casual bandroom setting and is meant to double as a mixer evening. So if your music is particularly screechy slash screamy - please believe we love that, but it might not be right for this particular soir e. Generally we can't accommodate super elaborate or large ensembles. There simply ain't time.
